Net salary in Greece: the new 2026 tax scale, 14 salaries and tax breaks
Greece lowered income tax for most employees in 2026. Employees pay 13.37% social security and income tax on a scale from 9% to 44%, and are usually paid 14 times a year. On €30,000 a year you keep about €22,030, or €1,574 in each of the 14 payments.
The 2026 tax scale
| Taxable income | Rate (no children) |
|---|---|
| Up to €10,000 | 9% |
| €10,000 – €20,000 | 20% |
| €20,000 – €30,000 | 26% |
| €30,000 – €40,000 | 34% |
| €40,000 – €60,000 | 39% |
| Above €60,000 | 44% |
Families pay lower rates in the middle brackets, and young people get big cuts: no income tax up to €20,000 for under-25s, and a 9% rate on the same band for those aged 25 to 30. Employees also get a tax credit of up to €777, reduced by €20 for every €1,000 of income above €12,000.

Why 14 salaries?
Greek employees receive a Christmas bonus of one monthly salary, an Easter bonus of half a salary and a summer holiday allowance of half a salary. A job paying "€2,000 a month" is therefore a €28,000-a-year job.
The 50% tax break for new residents
If you move your tax residence to Greece to work for a Greek employer or a Greek branch, and you were not tax resident in Greece for five of the previous six years, 50% of your employment income is exempt from income tax for seven years. You apply to the tax authority (AADE) after you move; check the current deadline before you relocate. Social security is still due on the full salary.
Things to know
- Pay by card. To get the full tax credit, you must spend at least 30% of your income by card or electronic payment. If you spend less, you pay a 22% penalty on the shortfall.
- Savings interest is taxed at 15%, dividends at 5%.
- You need a tax number (AFM) and a social security number (AMKA) before you start work.
